Mental health impacts how one thinks, feels, and acts, influencing how stress is handled, relatability to others, and crucial decision-making. Mental health is essential at every stage of life, from childhood through adulthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recognising mental health issues in men can be challenging because our society&#8217;s expectations often discourage men from expressing their emotions. However, there are signs which indicate that a man may be struggling with his mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Common Signs of Mental Health Issues in Men<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mood Changes:<\/strong>\u00a0Men may display persistent sadness, hopelessness, or irritability\u2014extreme mood swings, including manic episodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Behavioural Changes:<\/strong>&nbsp;Withdrawal from social activities and withdrawal from family and friends is common. Men might lose interest in activities they once enjoyed, increase their use of alcohol or drugs, change their sleeping patterns, or show increased anger, hostility, or violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cognitive Issues:<\/strong>&nbsp;Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions can indicate mental health struggles. Men might also experience thoughts of self-harm or suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Physical Symptoms:<\/strong>&nbsp;Physical indicators of mental health issues are indicated through unexplained aches and pains, significant changes in appetite and weight, and chronic fatigue or low energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Emotional Symptoms:<\/strong>&nbsp;Frequent anxiety, excessive guilt or worthlessness, and feelings of being overwhelmed include some of the emotions which men may encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Specific Disorders and Their Signs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Depression:<\/strong>&nbsp;Symptoms include a consistent misery or worry, feelings of despair, and increased irritability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Anxiety Disorders:<\/strong>&nbsp;Men may experience restlessness, fatigue, difficulty staying focused, and a mind that often goes blank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bipolar Disorder:<\/strong>&nbsp;Unusual shifts in mood and activity levels, ranging from manic highs with increased energy and euphoria to depressive lows with deep sadness and fatigue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD):<\/strong>&nbsp;Sudden flashbacks, terrible nightmares, severe anxiety, and avoidance of trauma reminders are critical signs of PTSD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Substance Abuse:<\/strong>&nbsp;Using substances to cope with thoughts or feelings. These changes are behaviours related to excessive or increased drug or alcohol use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Encouraging Men to Seek Help<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you notice these signs in your father, brother, uncle, or spouse, encourage them to seek professional help. Start by opening a conversation in a private, comfortable setting, expressing your concerns without judgment or criticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use &#8220;I&#8221; statements, such as &#8220;I&#8217;ve noticed you&#8217;ve been feeling down lately.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Offer support by listening without interrupting and reassuring them that seeking help is a sign of strength. Encourage professional help by suggesting they visit a doctor or mental health professional and provide information about resources such as hotlines and support groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be patient and supportive.
